The Magic of the Chinese New Year is to change animal, date and element each year. The cycle is of 12 years. In 2024, the Lunar New Year began on the 10th, of February. Since ancient times, China has followed the lunar calendar, the new year marks the first hint of Spring in the northern hemisphere.
As we are based in Hong Kong, it is important to understand the customs and their importance. We dived in different articles to summarize the below and try to keep things simple.

The dragon represents the only mythical creature among the animals of the zodiac. Considered the most powerful creature of the 12 animals, the dragon is symbolic of honour, prosperity, authority, and dignity. In China, for centuries, the Dragon represented imperial power.

Seen as loyal and generous to their friends, Dragon’s babies are mostly recognized as fearless, ambitious, intelligent and confident. Plenty of other adjectives could be added.
